What is imaginative play?

Has your child ever picked up a funny looking stick in the park, waved it around like a magic wand and claimed to be a wizard?

Or asked for help building a fort out of blankets and dining chairs as the setting for their fantasy world? Maybe it's a cave, maybe it's a submarine...

Pretend play, creative play, imaginary play, or simply playing, is an essential part of a child's development. Imaginative play is how children learn about the world around them. This is at the core of what we do at Drama Tots.

How we incorporate imaginative play at Drama Tots

Our enthusiastic teachers expertly fuel the children’s imaginations, bringing our adventures to life.

We use high quality, multipurpose props that could be anything in the eyes of a toddler. One day our balance beam could be a tightrope at a circus, the next, a rickety bridge across a stream. Our colourful rings might be a little duck pond in the park or even a seat on a bus journey to the seaside. This not only challenges the children to flex their imaginations during class, but also encourages them to be creative with everyday items at home. A wooden spoon from the kitchen or a rock from the beach can become anything to a child.

Get creative! Providing imaginative play opportunities in your home is easier than you think. Allow your child to lead the play. It can be open-ended and unstructured with no rules or restrictions.

Teddy Bear Picnic
